Attention creatives and media industry professionals. You’re invited to attend a FREE monthly networking event meant to help you connect and grow your business. This event is for photographers, videographers, service providers such as printers, insurance providers, hair and makeup artists, set designers and other media professionals.

Come and hang out with us at Parkwood Studios to check out new gear, talk about innovations, best practices, share referrals and recommendations and just talk shop. The meetings alternate on mornings and evenings each month, so everyone can have an opportunity to attend.

Desert Overview Hike

5 – 8 p.m.

An introduction to the flora, fauna, folklore & history of the Sonoran Desert w/ valley overview. South Mountain Park is the largest city park in the country and a jewel of wonder right here in the valley. This “stroll” takes us through typical Sonoran landscape, up an easy and somewhat shaded mountain trails, to incredible views of the valleys north and south of the park. Join a 40 year native on this beautiful hike and see why the Sonoran Desert is a living desert. Hike leader and desert specialist, Jon Mincks, explains the wonders and wiles of the desert.

The Whole Story: Part II

On First Friday, May 5, 2017, Phoenix Art Museum and The Whole Story will present "Part 2", the second installment of a storytelling series that seeks to broaden perspectives with personal stories that honor the black experience.

Joining the show's director, Rachel Eseoghene Egboro, are featured storytellers, Brandon Pearson, Leah Marche, Sule Greg C. Wilson, Necheé Chrystal Stewart and Sharifa Rowe.

First Friday Live: Cinco Artes

Tarra Lazos Creative is excited to collaborate with Lupita Medina-Villa and the Herberger Theater Center to present a celebration of contemporary Mexican and Chicano arts and culture for Cinco de Mayo. It has become tradition to see this date as an excuse for selling tequila shots and Margaritas, ignoring the beauty of a living, evolving contemporary Mexican and Mexican-American life. Through the art of painting, the art of video, the art of song, the art of dance, and the art of food, we will truly rejoice in the beauty of a culture that surrounds and enriches us.

This First Friday we are excited to welcome back The Whole Story with Part 2, the second installment of a storytelling series that seeks to broaden perspectives with personal stories that honor the black experience in Arizona. We are are also proud to present a new collaboration featuring local artists organized by nueBOX and local publisher Four Chambers Press presents their latest release, a chapbook of prose poems entitled Channels, Frequencies, and Sequences by local poet and ASU Professor Michael Brooks Cryer.

We will be selling art created by incarcerated men and raising awareness about the effectiveness of programming in prison. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Children First Leadership Academy and Pinal County Family Advocacy Center. The first 500 guests will receive a limited edition print.
